What’s Really Happening to Our Planet? The Facts Simply Explained (DK, August 2016) by Tony Juniper uses infographics and clear explanations of major environmental challenges facing the world and society today. Given the current course of events and the denial by some that climate change is even happening, Eco News Network wants to call our readers attention to this book as a great tool to explain environmental challenges to people of all ages and persuasions.

The book takes very complex challenges and presents them in an easy to digest and memorable format. Separating fact from fiction, leading sustainability expert Juniper presents Earth’s most pressing environmental, social, and economic issues in bite-sized chunks.

“In the United States, each person produces 66lbs of electronic waste per year; the largest volume per person of any country on earth.”

The concise, infographic style of the book brings together major areas of public concern including consumerism, climate change, water shortages, and waste challenges that impact society today and need to be addressed for a sustainable future.

“Rising living standards have led to an explosion in demand for all kinds of consumer goods, ranging from disposable packaging to complex durable products such as cars. All require natural resources and all eventually become waste.”

In What’s Really Happening to Our Planet? Juniper offers a fresh perspective on how unchecked human activity will impact all of us. He presents the major drivers of change, addresses the consequences of the rising demand for resources, and then lays out solutions on how we can shape the future.

“877 plastic bottles are thrown out every second.”
